The
AJC recently investigated a GOP statement on Obama's effect on health
care premiums. The statement reminded
me of an old saying in marketing that "perception is reality".
Unfortunately, the GOP propaganda machine is extremely proficient at using this
concept to influence public opinion with their biased version of reality.
Take
for example this complaint, investigated by Politico, that under
the Obama administration the cost of healthcare premiums has grown 29%;
certainly a shock to the system. The GOP spin on this fact is that Obama has
hurt the public when it comes to healthcare costs. What they
fail to mention is that under the republican administration of George W. Bush
healthcare premiums grew a whopping 65%. Taken in light of this fact,
Obama's record on the rate of health care premium growth has been a huge
reduction from the Bush years.
Another
old saying that seems apropos to
such partisan pronouncements is "don't believe everything you
read".
