The Supreme Court ruling yesterday clearly and
strongly supported the intent of the Affordable Care Act to make reasonable
health insurance available for more U.S. Citizens than ever before.
One would think that those who have opposed and
obstructed this act would now start to think that they were wrong, and this act
is indeed very good for America. However it will probably just make them hunker
down even more in spite of all the good things this act has brought about for
the millions of Americans who now have health insurance.
Unfortunately, we are all affected differently
depending on the state where we live. In those states that embraced the
ACA and expanded Medicaid, the numbers of uninsured dropped as predicted,
whilst in other states many people fell through the cracks. This difference is
purely partisan related, and those who suffer are the citizens of states where
conservative ideology has prevented people from participating in health care
insurance intended for all Americans.
Given that our constitution demands equality
for all, it would appear that certain states are artificially imposing
their ideology at the expense of the poorest among us. Perhaps the
Supreme Court should consider that breach of law, and harmonize the ACA across
all states.
