As a retiree on a Medicare
Advantage plan I have found over the last six years that the government
sponsored and defined medicare insurance policies for seniors operate
smoothly and have been doing so for many years. So I look somewhat
skeptically at all the negative comments in the AJC regarding the new
Affordable Care Act. Of course there will be glitches at the start of such a
complex program.
So I did my own experiment and logged on to Healthcare.Gov and
looked at the plans offered to single young people and families, and frankly I
didn't run into any trouble finding the information. So I have to come to the
conclusion that those dissing the new process are computer naifs or have an axe
to grind.
Why aren't we cheering the fact that all people now
have the opportunity to obtain health insurance and also get
financial help if they qualify? Why aren't we happy that seniors will see the
infamous donut hole close as a result of the ACA? Why aren't we glad that young
people can continue on their parents insurance up to age 26, again as a result
of he ACA? Why did our governor refuse federal help for expanding Medicaid when
the ACA would pay for it? And why aren't we ecstatic for those with a
precondition who now can get health insurance?
Given the negatives published by the AJC it seems
like we have become a herd of meanies. Why not give the ACA a chance?
That seems to me like the American thing to do.
