Airport Security Process

June 16th 2015

Hank Johnston's opinion piece in the AJC clearly spells out the lunacy of allowing armed civilians to parade openly and unopposed through the terminal building of the world's busiest airport. This poorly thought out "guns everywhere" Georgia law has put all travelers through our airport in jeopardy. Who wants to go through a crowded bustling building where armed men and women are welcome to enter whether for peaceful or perhaps nefarious purposes? What next? Muggings at the baggage claim?

Frankly, ever since 911, I have thought that all areas of airports should be made secure. There should be two levels of security zones. One to enter any airport building, and a second more stringent security level to proceed to the gates.  Our airports are a prime target for those who wish to destroy our society and instill fear throughout the country. As reported in investigations over the last fourteen years, the current security system is far from perfect. A better approach is needed, and as a first step, allowing unauthorized people to carry guns in any proximity to the airport should be stopped immediately.
