America's new Civil War - Published in AJC

America is at war with itself again. It may not be with guns and troops but the divide in philosophy is truly rending our nation apart. We need to declare a truce and take stock of what we stand to lose if we keep up this vile and uncivil war.   There are a vast number of things we all agree on: life, liberty, prosperity, equal rights, and happiness being obvious ones. The things we disagree on are minor when compared to those important issues, and can be resolved if we work together rather than blindly refusing to consider the other point of view. Why are we damaging ourselves with absolutely firm positions that result in fierce opposition to anyone who doesn't agree? When we let that occur it creates a vacuum that is normally filled with opportunists who take advantage and ruin the system for their own advantage and benefit. Don't let that happen to our great country. Let's work intelligently to resolve our problems, so that we all can move forward with respect and dignity once again.
