As a senior citizen I am extremely concerned with the
actions Trump and the republican congress will take to dismantle Medicare and
Social Security. It has been a stated goal of the conservatives to move social
security towards some as yet undefined market based plan, and to replace
Medicare with vouchers. Both actions will be disastrous for future retirees,
and also those of us who currently depend on these beloved programs for our
livelihood and well-being. When Obama implemented the Affordable Care Act, it
included actions that extended the lifetime of Medicare and provided seniors
with additional preventive benefits. The republicans have vowed to repeal the
A.C.A and they haven't any plans to replace it, just talk. This is obviously
the first volley to eliminate the programs that we paid into over our working
lives. We seniors deserve better treatment than that.
