The tax plan proposed by our republican controlled government is a
direct blow to the poor and elderly in our state. It is an increase
in wealth transfer from the poor to the rich worsening our level of
inequality. By raising sales taxes, It will thrust many people
deeper into poverty reducing the purchasing power of their already meager
incomes. Cutting income tax may sound like a wonderful gift, but it is a
double edged sword as basic services erode and more people end up relying on welfare
and the charity of their neighbors. Our elected officials need to take
some basic training In real economics and seek out the personal impacts of
their ideas before imposing further draconian measures on the less well off in
our midst.
