Right to Work States

August 29 2014

The Friday conversation page in the AJC trumpeted the triumph of  Right to Work States in reducing or eliminating Union participation. But according to the Bureau of labor Statistics,  workers in Right to Work States have lower wages and incomes, less job based health insurance coverage, and higher death rates on the job. Additionally the Right to Work States invest less in education, and have higher poverty and infant mortality rates. Does that sound like good reason for workers to celebrate on Labor Day? I don't think so.

No matter what one thinks of unions, the policies and actions in these Right to Work States, including Georgia, have been  solely pro-business, pro rich, to the detriment of the working population. It's a formula for increased inequality, and more misery, and since purchases by the average person basically create the economy, it will eventually lead to economic decline.
